Abstract: Georgian Court University in Lakewood New Jersey has recently constructed an International Collaboration Center with the intent of reaching and connecting learners in other geographical locations for collaborative projects. Using this conference center, students are able to connect live with individuals or large groups with the main purpose of becoming globally competent. Through the use of audio and video, concerns with social presence in distance education are also reduced. This paper discusses the importance of social presence, making global connections, course design, and strategies.
