Building a Culture of Expected Quality in Online Education
Abstract: Administrators and faculty face on-going challenges associated with development of high-quality on-line course offerings. Academic departments often have a wide range of online expertise between faculty varying from novice to expert. This range of competency in online instruction can lead to an inconsistent and often irritating online environment for students. This session will identify an institution’s philosophy with regards to online education as well as assesses any current quality measures that may be utilized as well as the effectiveness to which these measures have been communicated throughout an academic setting. Examples of a wide variation of quality measurement tools that are utilized nation-wide will be shared and discussed. A "bill-of-rights" concept based tool will be presented as mechanism to assuage the fears of administrators and faculty within educational institutions searching for clarity and consistency without jeopardizing academic freedom or over standardization.
