Charting the Course: Establishing Distance Learning Programs in Nazarbayev University (Republic of Kazakhstan)
Abstract: Nazarbayev University is a new Western-style university in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was founded in 2009. We describe University-wide strategic efforts in initiating developments of the distance learning programs and share background information, rationale for initiating distance learning developments at the University, role of the University in advancing the field of distance learning in Kazakhstan, guiding principles, quality assurance measures, implications for the university, and ways to move forward. Our strategic approach to initiating distance learning programs will benefit educational institutions that are in the process of starting a similar process in their organizations.
