Symposium on Using Technology to Facilitate Academic, Cognitive, Behavioral, Psychological, and Social Engagement in Executive Format Doctoral Education Programs

Abstract: The session describes the engagement of the doctoral student using technology from prior to entering the program to completion of the program. The symposium papers will start with engagement of the students through virtual recruitment sessions. The next paper will be discussion the program development process and how technology was used to engage the stakeholders. The session will then build to discuss engagement of students once they are in the program with discussion boards. Specific examples of engagement using instructional strategies will be presented. Examples of engagement using Facebook and Twitter will be highlighted. Next, a discussion of the outcomes of highly engaged students in two of the two major roles of future faculty in teaching and research will be presented. The session will then offer a time for a question and answer. The session will end with a session that brainstorms topics on student engagement with technology that could be researched.
