Abstract: Creating a flipped classroom is about more than just creating video recordings of presentations for students to view prior to class meetings. Barbi Honeycutt, founder of Flip It Consulting, suggests a flipped classroom is about learning outcomes + learning activities + accountability. Designing effective, engaging and interactive presentations and activities for flipped classrooms can be challenging. The problem is finding a way to integrate interactive activities within a presentation and also include accountability components. The social media tool VoiceThread can provide a solution. When designed correctly a VoiceThread presentation can include multimedia and information, opportunities for students to actively participate in discussions, and a chance for students to ask questions prior class meetings. Guidelines for the design of these presentations and recommendations for implementation will be shared as well as examples.
