Abstract: Project OWL (Online World of Learning) is a problem-based educational simulation partnership between Kennesaw State University, Cherokee Elementary, Van Wert Elementary, and Marietta Center for Advanced Academics in Georgia, and Yangzhou Experimental Primary School and Yangzhou University located in Jiangsu province, People's Republic of China. A three-dimensional virtual world known as a multi-user virtual environment (MUVE) using OpenSimulator allows students to enter the simulation environment with customized avatars, transcending the limitations of time and space to create, communicate, collaborate, and solve problems. Project OWL also seeks to benefit participating teachers through professional development, increased content knowledge, and involvement in an internationally collaborative endeavor offering a multiplicity of professional rewards.
