Abstract: In online social networks, the term “friend” describes someone with access to your profile, and whose profile you can access. This study indicates that online reputations are dependent on the number of online friends, and examines behaviors related to number of friends. Eighty-three students in a residential high school in the Northeastern United States completed an online survey relating to the number of online friends they have and their feelings about using Facebook™ (TM). Sixty-nine respondents own Facebook™ accounts. Significant differences were measured at a p < 0.05 level and are discussed.
