Abstract: The evidence is indisputable: Too many students are graduating college unprepared to write at a professional level in the workplace. The solution being used to respond to this issue was developed using an iterative process framework of acquire/apply/assess/adapt/achieve. Universal design principles were applied by addressing student motivation at multiple levels, answering content (what) and context (how) questions, and supporting improvement in writing skills multiple format review, assessment, and presentation tools. The technology-based solution being piloted this year is administered via the open source learning management system, Moodle, which engages more students based on their individual learning styles better than alternative solutions examined. The results to date have been impressive, as evidenced by the outcomes and attitudes assessed through student work and student surveys.
