Abstract: Many researchers believe that social interaction plays an important role in the collaboration and learning process. As the result, many online course management systems has been designed and attempted to foster social interaction in the environment. Among those systems, Sakai is a community source software development effort to design, build and deploy a new Collaboration and Learning Environment (CLE) for higher education. This paper is a study proposal which provides theoretical framework and a brief methodology to understand people’ collaboration in Sakai and to examine the influence of awareness information on interaction and collaboration in Sakai.
