e-Forming & e-Storming – using technology to establish a Learning Technology Team
Abstract: The Learning Technology Team at Sheffield Hallam University was established to provide a catalyst for learning technology innovation. The team drew upon its collective experiences in supporting the Blackboard VLE, developing multimedia resources, television production, and research into learning, teaching and assessment innovation, during its formative stages. At this time the team needed to establish a common knowledge and vision, and develop its awareness of the skills, interests and experience amongst them. The 'forming' and ‘storming’ processes were underpinned by the use of online communications, content management, and collaboration technologies. The decision to use these tools was partly driven by a need to understand the intricacies of e-collaboration as experienced by students and staff. This paper describes how Blackboard, a wiki and a CMS were used in the teams ‘e-forming’ and 'e-storming' stages and in contributing to the institution's e-Learning strategy.
