Abstract: The increase in cultural diversity in the public school system presents educators with many challenges. The greatest challenge is how to address the literacy needs of culturally diverse students and integrate them comfortably into the mainstream classroom. The use of technology-based multicultural cooperative learning communities have proven to be an effective tool for bridging that gap. Numerous studies show the reciprocal social and attitudinal benefits of these learning communities for all students. As Quintero (1994) suggests "that educators can learn to value and build on learner's knowing, learners will in turn value and benefit from the education experience in the classroom."
