Abstract: This case study examined the two-year participatory design process to implement a gamification dashboard in the online learning management system of large undergraduate courses. The theories and methods of participatory design engaged multiple perspectives in the design and development of a product. In this case study, a researcher, university educators, an instructional designer, and a developer worked together to create a gamification dashboard that met the requirements of all team members. The specific needs of each individual at times facilitated or restricted the work of others, requiring flexibility and adaptability during the process. Recommendations are presented to support teams with diverse perspectives.
