Abstract: How do we know if students are learning and what we can do to improve their learning? One tool is the scoring rubric. How do we know if assignments and rubrics are written clearly and well aligned and if educators evaluate student work consistently? To answer these questions, we need another tool – calibration. We may think of calibration with laboratory equipment, but it is also an assessment tool.
