Abstract: As an educator who has taught exclusively online for several years, I would like to share some of what I have learned about engaging the online learner. Data were compiled formally and anecdotally from student surveys, preferences, and activity assessments while pursuing a degree in Educational Technology or certificate in Online Learning. Student engagement is the key to persistence in the online arena. Topics include content selection, instructions and assignment instructions, community building, reflection, and rubrics.
