Abstract: A diverse labor force has created a changing paradigm for today's organizations. The demographics of the traditional Caucasian male workforce has shifted in the last fifty years to embrace a more heterogeneous mix of employees with varying norms. The ability to understand how employees perceive diversity through trait emotional intelligence will help guide organizational leaders to train their people to think, act, and resolve conflict in situations that require awareness and self-management. This study will analyze quantitative data collected before and after emotional intelligence training to examine the effect of the intervention on emotional self-efficacy. The research will also attempt to examine if any perceived difference exists in emotional or social interpersonal skills on participants in managing workplace diversity through increasing a global mindset. In the qualitative phase, 1:1 interviews will be conducted with the deviant sample selected from participants to gain an increased understanding of their personal experiences and insights from the training with universal diverse orientation, the ability to recognize and accept similarities and differences in others. The implications of this study may contribute to the limited research in trait emotional intelligence which has not been commonly explored in diversity research. It may also promote organizations to consider interventional approaches for employee development in workplace inclusion.
