Abstract: Motivated by recent ITE policy changes in the Republic of Ireland, this paper explores how student teachers could be supported to develop digital skills within a programme of ITE. Focused upon the primary sites of practice of ITE in the Republic of Ireland, the Higher Education Institution and practicum school placement, the impact of different actors including teacher educators and in-career teachers upon the development of digital skills of students is examined. Proposals on how to support student teachers in developing digital skills are made, along with the identification of areas of worthy future investigation.
