University Student Facebook Use – Personally Versus Academically
Abstract: Since the conception of Facebook in 2004, its popularity has been increasing exponentially. Facebook is now the largest social network platform worldwide. The national survey shows that university students are the most active Facebook users. The unique features of Facebook make it a favorite social media tool among university students. Students spend a tremendous amount of time and energy on Facebook on a daily basis. Facebook has become part of University student life. Although Facebook could be used as a personal social tool, it has the potential to benefit students academically. This study explores university student use of Facebook, comparing their personal uses versus academic uses. The participants of the study are undergraduates from an urban university in the United States.
