Abstract: This paper presents findings of a case-based study that investigates the impact of specifications grading in an online undergraduate course. For the course redesign, a learning buffet model was used to develop a flexible online learning environment that meets students’ needs (Zainuddin & Idrus, 2017). Assignment mapping and final grades were compared between a traditional course offering and the redesigned specifications graded offering. Initial findings indicate that undergraduate students not only perform better in a buffet model online learning environment, but also are more engaged in completing activities that could transfer knowledge to practical sustainability situations.
