Abstract: Students of color are under-represented in U.S. doctoral programs. This proposal seeks to explore factors that may be related to this underrepresentation. The factors explored include ethnocentrism, stereotype threat, disparity in income, and the role that media plays in perpetuating stereotypes that may lead to under-presentation. In addition, the opportunities that media provides to assist students of color obtain and complete doctoral programs will be explored.
