Abstract: In the age of the novel Coronavirus, education transitioned from in-classroom instruction to teaching fully in virtual settings. This paper describes the challenges parents experience connecting to the classroom in the virtual environment, and enlightens teachers on methods to implement during non-traditional instruction to ensure parent connection. It is through the use of personalization and rapport building that teachers establish important links within their classroom communities. Once the parent-teacher connections are established, teachers can keep conversation flowing by implementing a variety of communication options. Families can gain insight into how to incorporate low or no-cost items to supplement lessons. Providing flexible office hours that allow parents to access their child’s teacher ensures that parents and teachers are staying connected and communicating. While educators and parents are navigating non-traditional instruction at the same time, teachers should be aware of the parental need for communication.
