Abstract: Programming education is not realized as an independent subject in Japanese elementary school, as it is characterized as cross-curriculum learning. Moreover, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) recognizes the importance of collaboration and mutual respect with various people. The authors have conducted the programming education in ESD with the aim of enhancing the students’ awareness of sustainable development goals. This practice was undertaken to enable students to take another look at public transportation, and provide them with expectations for contributing to their society using familiar tools from their surroundings.
