Abstract: This study investigates student perceptions on teacher presence in online discussion. The study is conducted at an urban university in the United States. Participants in the study are graduate students in a discussion-based online course. Students provide their perceptions on teacher presence in online discussion through written reflections. Data is analyzed and discussed. Suggestions are made on how instructors should maintain their presence in online discussion to maximize student learning.
