Abstract: The purpose of this study was to design teaching “Force and Motion” with virtual experiment that can promote students’ data modeling ability. This study is quasi-experimental design. Students were divided into two groups, the experimental group (N=23) was Data-modeling teaching with virtual experiment, the comparison group (N=25) was text-based traditional teaching, The research instruments were Force and Motion Data-Modeling Ability Test and Forces and Motion Achievement Test. This study had two conclusions: 1.After teaching, The experimental group was significantly better than the comparison group (p<.05) in the ability of constructing data model, with large effect (η2 =.140); The experimental group was significantly better than the comparison group (p<.05) in the ability of applying data model, with middle effect close to large effect(η2 =.117). Which shows that data-modeling teaching with virtual experiment had improved the ability of constructing data model and the ability of applying data model. 2.The experimental group and the comparison group still had their own different learning problems in the ability of data-modeling, need to be remedied. There were learning problems on the comparison group with the ability of constructing data model. There were learning problems both on the experimental group and the comparison group with the ability of explaining data model.
