Digital Competences Model for Distance Learning Students: MCompDIGEAD
Abstract: This article presents the construction and validation of the Digital Competences Model for Distance Learning students entitled MCompDigEAD. This is a qualitative exploratory-descriptive study that was carried out between 2014 and 2017, using three procedures. Firstly, digital competences were mapped and validated based on analysis and comparison between theoretical references and case studies with Distance Learning (DL) students and experts. Secondly the model was constructed in four steps: Conception, Planning, Modeling, and Validation. Lastly, it was validated through a partnership with the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). The model was created with six areas, there were also further divisions, the competence levels: functional digital literacy, critical digital literacy and digital fluency as well as fourteen specific skills and three proficiency levels. MCompDigEAD is a model created for the purpose of orienting and assisting DL processes, serving as a reference for different institutions in distinct distance educational contexts.
