Abstract: Faculty and librarian partners (Personal Librarians) work cooperatively within a Learning Community (LC) model of FYE (First Year Experience) to ensure students receive information literacy (IL) instruction that imparts the skills students need to complete research based assignments, through a flipped classroom model. The teaching faculty in the two linked courses that form the LC and a librarian work together to cooperatively place IL instruction in the learning community. The rigorous requirements on time for the FYE provided the impetus to delve into the flipped classroom for delivery of IL content for the FYE program. Students viewed tutorials embedded in the LMS as a scaffold to support in-class hands-on sessions. Attendees will discover how this flipped classroom model was successfully implemented at a private, four-year institution, the obstacles that were overcome, and the impact made on student learning.
