Abstract: This study outlines an approach to facilitating the process of selecting reading material at suitable level of difficulty for second-year Japanese college students majoring in English language studies. The benefits of reading large amounts of easily understandable text in a foreign language are widely recognized, but identifying appropriate material can be a laborious process. It is hoped that through a combination of learner reading level evaluation and a publisher-independent system of categorizing reading levels of graded readers, book selection will be facilitated.
