Building research-based and practical guidelines for ICT use at Finnish schools
Abstract: Children and young people use fluently versatile ICT applications at home and during their leisure time. This skilled use of ICT also challenges teachers and parents to consider the possibilities of ICT in teaching and learning. From the perspective of educational sector, the question is on enabling all children an equal possibility to gain the skills and readiness necessary for their own life, studies and upcoming working life. This article focuses on describing and analyzing the implementation and results of such efforts, namely of two linked Finnish national ICT projects. The first project aimed at developing and sharing good practices of ICT use at pilot schools in order to build recommendations for Finnish educational institutions. The latter was a broad research consortium funded by Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
