Pre-Service Special Education Teachers’ Views on ICT in Education
Abstract: This paper introduces the views of pre-service special education teachers on using information and communication technologies (ICTs) in education. Ninety-one students participated in the study by completing a questionnaire about the educational purposes of ICT, preferred technologies, and the factors preventing or delaying the use of ICTs in education. The findings indicated that the students found ICTs very useful for several purposes in education, and that they preferred to use technologies with touch interfaces. They also identified many teacher, context and technology related factors as being significant impediments to the use of ICTs in education. The results will inform the planning of a research and educational collaboration involving students of computer science and special education, which aims to improve the match between technology innovations and the requirements of education.
