Share Paper: Preliminary Results from a University-Based Incubator for Transmedia Digital Prototypes

Abstract: This paper outlines preliminary lessons from a University-based, student-driven, prototyping incubator for digital media projects. The Transmedia Zone at Ryerson University supports student learning and experimentation in storytelling and content-based innovation through a mentored prototyping process. Collaborative and cross-disciplinary teams develop their own ideas, timelines, and practical prototyping artifacts in an failure-tolerant environment. One cohort has been through the program, with plans and funding in place for continued operation at three cohorts per year over the next three years.
