Abstract: This paper advocates that the act of creation has educational value. The act of creation gives learners the opportunity to ask questions, apply understandings, increase motivation, and see knowledge turned into tangible artifacts. This paper will explore the educational rationale for incorporating the act of creation into learning. It will outline the benefits, barriers and potential problems of creating artifacts to establish authentic learning. The creation process is facilitated by New Media as described in illustrative projects.
