Abstract: Edward Ishiguro is a long-time clicker user and has offered workshops on clicker usage for graduate students and instructors through the Learning and Teaching Centre at University of Victoria for more than 5 years. In this presentation, he will focus on the variety of applications that are possible ranging from “flipping the classroom” (e.g., Mazur’s peer instruction) to spot checking of understanding of concepts or creating anonymous surveys for the purpose of generating discussion.

Objectives

A Student Response System is a combination of software and hardware that allows students to deliver instantaneous feedback to their instructor. The hardest, yet most rewarding part of using a Student Response System (SRS) is learning how to teach effectively with it. It will also outline best practices for ensuring maximum results and successful learning outcomes. This presentation will also touch on how to use other educational technologies to increase student engagement and comprehension.
