Peer-Education and Media Literacy: The Production of Audio-Visual Repetition Units by Students - A Case Study Report
Full Paper: Case Study
ID: 39921
Abstract: We used podcasts produced by students to promote deep learning in geo-information sciences (GIS) and to enhance the students’ media literacy. To resolve the didactical challenge of heterogeneous knowledge gained in previous GIS courses, students acted as content producers for their peers. Within small groups they were required to develop Repetition Units with tasks including the preparation and recording of audio-visual podcasts. Using this approach, we predicted that our students would gain such transferable skills as time and project management, communication, teamwork, peer education, and media literacy, as well as comprehension of the main content provided in our GIS coursework.
