Usability Heuristics for eText and Digital Course Materials
Abstract: Improved usability should address many of the issues currently limiting adoption of eText and other digital course materials (DCM). To date there are only a handful of published usability studies and those are limited in their usefulness due to validity or research method. Lacking in the literature is a clear set of usability heuristics tailored for eText and DCM. This roundtable is intended to address the void in usability for this educational environment. The round table will begin with a presentation of a modified set of usability heuristics intended for e-learning environments and then lead discussion about the modification and revision of these principles. In addition to the discussion of heuristics participants will learn about the pilot program for testing usability heuristics at the University of South Dakota and will be invited to participate in consortium approach to usability evaluation using the heuristics derived from this discussion.
