Abstract: Project managers working in Small and Medium Enterprises hold a prominent share in today's market economy. They are particularly challenged by the rapid changes in service-oriented industries. This is why providing appropriate support for their life-long learning is likely to have vast and beneficial implications. In this paper we explore the nature of life long learning opportunities that project managers prefer. This is done through reviewing literature, describing the EU-project iCom aimed at promoting constructive communication - a success factor of project management - and an empirical study aimed at finding out how project mana-gers tend to learn. The results indicate that traditional, formal education is far away from mee-ting life long learning preferences of practicing managers and that the primary factor in their learning are interpersonal relationships followed by sevices provided by the internet.
