Pre-service Teachers’ Perception and Intention to Use Mobile Device for Teaching
Abstract: The increasing availability of mobile tools in schools indicates an importance of studying pre-service teachers’ perception on mobile tool use in classrooms. Research has demonstrated that teachers are more likely to integrate technology when they believe technology integration is useful for student learning. This study adopted Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Davis, Bagozzi, and Warshaw (1989) as a theoretical framework and examined pre-service teachers’ perception and intention to utilize mobile devices for teaching. Data were collected from an online survey (n=126), pre-service teachers’ blogs (n= 48), lesson plans (n=17), and field notes. The results indicated that a majority of pre-service teachers considered integration of a mobile device very useful for students, and they were willing to use them for teaching. However, they had concerns of classroom management issues, and a lack of skills hindered them from using the tool in classrooms.
