Implementation of Desire2Learn at a Rural State College in Georgia: A Case Study on Faculty Perceptions of Readiness
Abstract: This case study reports findings on faculty perceptions of readiness during and after implementation of a new learning management system (LMS), a complete package for online instruction, at a four-year college in a rural U.S. setting. Data came from surveys administered during training and after implementation, e-mail records of help requests, and informal interviews. Key findings indicate that training sessions with a 1:8 trainer to learner ratio, participation incentives, and time for personal exploration and experimentation are vital in successful implementation of a new LMS. Perceptions after training were generally more positive than before, with teaching faculty who were already interested in the LMS showing increased readiness and successful use.
