Abstract: Online facilitators must be prepared to communicate differently and learn to cultivate the learning community to sustain relationships with their students. This can easily be accomplished through the use of Wiki technology. Utilizing a Wiki page can improve faculty presence and student retention in an online course. Wiki’s allow for learning to occur in a highly interactive and meaningful way through student/faculty interaction in a non-threatening environment. This simple teaching tool will promote pedagogical thought and allow the content in the curriculum to be transformed by the learner. Wiki’s can be used in many ways, but faculty and students can share their work and ideas, and upload videos. By providing alternative ways for online students to express themselves, online learning can actually meet the needs of more students and allow for more relationship building than face to face classes. This presentation will explore the use of a wiki to create and develop useful activities for collaborative learning and faculty can learn how to cultivate and improve classroom interaction in real time.
