Abstract: In this paper the author proposes a design of an assisted personal learning environment (PLE) for middle school students. The author synthesizes current research findings in PLE and self-regulated learning (SRL) from a new prospective to suggest an assisted PLE for middle school students to support and to practice self-regulated learning as well as to improve academic achievement. The model of assisted PLE is unique as it serves the middle school students with a practical application that fertilizes, simple yet effective, learning analytics to generate personal recommendations for learning activities based on each student’s profile. An examination of the literature indicates that this intervention should promote longer active learning time and more practice of self-regulatory skills, which in turn should lead to higher academic achievement.
