Abstract: This article reports on part of a PhD action research study. It discusses the multiplicity of communication channels offered to students through the integration of social and participatory media into the face-to-face classroom. It connects the multimodality of social environments with the need to redesign classroom programs. The study took place in an Australian public high school, over an eighteen month period within the practitioner researcher’s thirteen classes that she taught during that time.
