How often to Evaluate? Developing Integrative Guidelines for Campus, Distance, and Technology-Enhanced Courses
Abstract: In recent years, institutions of higher education have had to deal with increased competition for students due to the effects of globalization and cuts in funding from government sources. These reasons coupled with rapid technological innovation have led to an urgent need on the part of institutions of higher education to maintain their standards and enhance the quality of the learning opportunities provided to students. One important aspect of this imperative is establishing more robust evaluation guidelines for teaching and learning as institutions move from the traditional campus-based formats to more blended and technology-enhanced approaches. This paper proposes a series of rationales and guidelines for providing more robust and finely tuned formative and summative evaluation timelines and processes than are currently in place in several institutions of higher education.
