Faculty Collaboration in Adapting E-Portfolios for Teaching
Abstract: Since an e-portfolio system was adapted by Mercy College, NY, in 2008, faculty members have been encouraged and supported to use e-portfolios in various areas from professional development to instructional purposes. In this proposed paper, two faculty cases will be described to discuss how the professors became collaborators who support each other in conceptualizing e-portfolio as an instructional tool, designing learning activities for their students, and reflecting on their own practices for further improvement, based on the results from interviews, observation of their teaching, and participation in broader learning communities, and review of their signature e-portfolio assignments. Additionally, this paper will report how broader teamwork helped the professors to continue their efforts, often supported by the administration. In conclusion, the importance of faculty partnership as well as a continuous support system for faculty in adapting a new technology will be discussed.
