Share Paper: Evaluation of Students’ Access to and Experience with Technology in a Public Mexican University

Abstract: The use of information and communication technologies in education is still limited in Mexico. The current paper presents the preliminary results of an ongoing diagnostic study about access to and experience with technology in a Mexican public university. A survey was applied to 136 students. Results show that most of them have a computer and an Internet connection at home, but mobile devices (e.g. smartphones, iPods) are not common. Participants surf the web more frequently than the national average. They tend to consider themselves skillful in the general use of technology, but when asked about specific tasks, perceived competency varies. ...
