Abstract: This paper describes PLOD, an environment that supports the construction of learning objects (LOs) based on instructional design and on the collaborative work among facilitators and learners. The use of this environment to build LOs guarantees that a pedagogic foundation supports the learning object development, and promotes the learner’s active participation throughout the process. Relevant characteristics of the implemented instructional model as well as the support we provide for achieving collaborative interaction among facilitators and learners are discussed in the paper. The system was developed and tested with an experimental group, and results reveal the advantages of collaboration in learning environments to generate significant learning objects for the community involved in the process.
