Abstract: Market forces, such as the rise of e-book readers and the increased availability of e-books and periodicals, could cause the e-book industry to develop in the next few years, especially e-text books. Using news and industry accounts of how the market might develop, this paper suggests some of the systemic impacts that could result, specifically suggesting impacts for authors, publishers, purchasers, learners, the entire industry, and researchers.
