Abstract: Online, three-dimensional virtual world environments are becoming more widely used knowledge-and-social-interaction tools and are another part of the electronic socio-technical system that people use for communication and lifelong learning in the foreseeable future. We discuss ways that learning community members, as users of the technology, can enhance their collaboration with colleagues and can extend some very practical research and educational operations into virtual spaces.
