BaSiS: An Application Supporting the Development of Study Skills
Abstract: Until recently the questions of literature research, of how to structure learning processes, of communication and interaction, of how to present papers, of how to discuss controversial issues, and of how to develop writing skills in the scholarly context of an university environment has not been focused sufficiently enough during seminars. As a result misunderstandings between students and teachers and fail marks have been the order of the day. In order to disentangle this problematic situation the blended-learning application BaSIS headed by Prof. Dr. S. Aufenanger (Institute of Education/ Media Literacy, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz) has been developed as compulsory unit of the Bachelor course of study for Education. The underlying idea is to improve techniques of study skills. The online application is based on six units: scholarly literature research, analysis of learning processes, means of collaborative learning, presentation skills, discussion skills and writing skills.
