Creativity SIG: Post-Conference Follow up
Fellow Creativity SIG members...
It was great to see many of you at the annual meeting of our creativity SIG at the recent SITE 2015 conference in Las Vegas last week. We felt it was a productive session, and we wanted to take a moment to touch base with all of you on a few things.
First, thank you for your participation in the fun little creativity creation activity that we did, in which you each constructed something to represent the idea of creativity to you. Anyone who is curious to see some photos/examples of this activity, will find that many of them were tweeted out with the hashtags #siteconf and #creativitySIG
And of course we had the cool Creativity SIG buttons.
As you can imagine all the other SIGs were intensely jealous!!!
As far as overall business goes, we held an election for the role of Associate Chair. The current Associate Chair Danah Henriksen was eligible and willing to stand for this position again. The voting was unanimous and she will be in this role for the next two years.
One of the main issues discussed was that many of the submissions that were labeled "Creativity SIG" did not necessarily fit the criterion for our SIG. So it was decided that it may be good for us to come up with some broad guidelines for next year, to help those who are submitting and/or reviewing SITE proposals, to help determine whether their work fits as a “creativity SIG” submission. Four people volunteered to build such guidelines/suggestions, which will be compiled into a document to be used for the next conference. Those people are Nicholas Reynolds, Paula Christensen, Nicoletta di Blas, and Punya Mishra. Once those guidelines have been worked out, we will share them out to the entire SIG via email.
Another SIG member, William Cain, offered to help in creating a newsletter to go out (possibly a few times a year) to help keep us all updated on SIG business and creativity happenings.
We will be in contact with all of those helpful volunteers separately, and we thank them for their help in advance and look forwarding to continuing to build our SIG over the next year.
For now, that is all. We were pleased to see many of you at the conference, and are pleased overall with the growth of the SIG over the first year. Again, we look forward to working with you all to grow and create this year too.
Take care, and as always feel free to let us know of any comments or suggestions.
Many thanks,
Punya and Danah (Chair and Associate Chair)
