Biography
Prof Emmanuel O. Adu is a Full Professor of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies at Faculty of Education, University of Fort Hare; South Africa. He is a seasoned educationist and administrator. He is a holder of PhD in Teacher Education (2002), M.Ed. Educational Management (1997), B.Ed. (Hons) Economics and Political Science (1994). He was a former Dean, Faculty of Education BA ISAGO University; Botswana He has over 17 years teaching and administrative experience at tertiary institutions in Nigeria, Botswana and South Africa; 2 years in secondary institution. Prof Adu has published widely, he has over 98 national and international publications in leading peer reviewed journals, 16 chapters in books and 10 conference proceedings. He has authored and co-authored 10 academic books relevant to his field of study making 134 publications. Currently he is one of the leading editors of a book entitled “Learn to teach” and writer of a chapter in a book entitled, “Teaching Economics and Management Science (EMS) in the senior phase” published by Oxford University Press, Southern Africa (OUPSA) based in Cape Town. His academic papers appeared in reputable journals based in Nigeria, USA, India, South Africa, Botswana, Canada, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, UK, Kenya, Italy, Ghana, Finland, Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany, while some are still undergoing review across the globe. He has attended international conferences in Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand, Botswana, Kenya, Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, USA and Ghana. He is a lead paper presenter, key note address speaker and a presider at many conferences. Prof Adu is a member of seven professional bodies including South African Education Research Association (SAERA) where he is one of the executive members and had gotten seven academic distinctions and merits awards including Vice Chancellor’s Senior Researcher Medal Award, Faculty of Education Award of Excellence, Faculty of Education Recognition of Achievement Award, School of General and Continuing Education Recognition of Service Award, fellow of Global Network Education award to mention a few. He has received grant awards to attend international conferences in countries like Botswana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, USA, Finland, Canada, to mention but a few. He had supervised 8 PhD theses, 52 masters’ degree dissertations, 105 first degree (Honours) projects and 26 diploma projects. He is appointed as a mentor in the faculty of education by the university of Fort Hare under the Govern Mbeki Research and Development Centre (GMRDC) research funds. He is a member of 6 international Journal editorial boards namely; European Journal of Academic Research; European Journal of Educational Sciences; European Journal of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities; European Journal of STEM Education and International Journal of Educational Sciences. He is also a reviewer in 12 international accredited journals.
Prof Adu is an external examiner to many universities such as University of South Africa (UNISA), Cape Peninsular University of Technology (CPUT), Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning (BOCODOL) to mention a few. He is an external assessor and evaluator of National Research Foundation (NRF) applications, South Africa. He is presently supervising many post-doctoral fellows and a current coordinator of higher degrees at the faculty of Education, University of Fort Hare.
Administratively, apart from wealth of experience at University of Ibadan in Nigeria and BA ISAGO University in Botswana, at University of Fort Hare in South Africa, Prof Adu is a member, University of Fort Hare Senate, School Experience (Teaching Practice) Committee, School Experience (Teaching Practice) Assessment Tools Draft Committee, Chairperson, Micro-Teaching Module Draft Committee, Member, Faculty of Education Planning and Management Committee, Faculty of Education Research and Higher Degrees Committee, Faculty of Education Board Committee, Faculty of Education Branding Committee, Senate Higher Degree Committee and Faculty Research Niche Area Committee (Early Childhood Development) which is a community engagement project. He is one of the research teams for the funded Eastern Cape Faculty of Education Teaching Practice Project and Research Redirection in Higher Education Institutions for Sustainable Development in Africa. Professor Adu's specialisations include the following; • Teacher Education and Development • Economics Education • Curriculum Studies • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education • Educational Research and • Education Management and Administration. He has published extensively on all the above listed areas of specialisation. Prof Adu promotes accountability, transparency and good administration. He is an erudite academician and astute administrator. He is an amiable professor, a team player and network effectively. He is humane but firm, a seasoned teacher, a scholar, an international award winner, a revered counsellor and researcher. He is widely travelled, a fulfilled family man and happily married with children.
