Practical Science at the Open University
Until recently students studying science at the Open University could attend week-long residential schools to gain credit in practical science. These residential schools are popular with students who attend them, but about two thirds of the current students choose not to attend, meaning a large number of students may not encounter practical science at level 2. We expect that a large percentage of students would however choose to take a ‘practical’ science module if they were offered interactive and immersive activities undertaken online that do not require them to leave their home for several days. The module will use innovative technology to enhance the range of practical science that students can experience and this poster session will focus on some of the activities that can be studied at a distance, online and are being designed and produced using a host of new software and interactive media.
