Abstract: As opposed to taking a plane or a train to get from Point A to Point B as efficiently as possible, a road trip is about the journey as well as the destination. Through a series of stories from the field, this talk will consider where we, as technology-minded teacher educators, have been, what those stories might tell us about where we’re going, and what that could mean for SITE. Bio: SITE president-elect Jonathan D. Cohen, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Learning Sciences at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. His work explores how learning is impacted when students engage in the active construction of public artifacts in technology-rich environments, and what teaching infrastructures are needed to support the development of such learning environments. This interest has led to an active research agenda, focusing on K-12 students and educators, and into a variety of content domains. Prior to his work in higher education, he spent a decade in a middle-school ELA classroom, and has also served as a school improvement consultant, focusing on professional learning and meaningful technology integration.
